Per chi conosce l'inglese, il riassunto delle tre conferenze per sommi capi.
Fonte GameDailyNINTENDO CONFERENCE
The conference has begun and they are showing a video of a bunch of games. "We're about making games." Right now a video of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is being shown. Now they are showing Star Fox 2 on the screen. "We like games with big stars and big explosions."
Now a video of Resident Evil 4 is being displayed. They are taking some shots at Sony about how everything is on memory sticks, or has to be on their operating system. "We're not that company." Nintendo is going to show you "new ways to relate to your games." "While others are talking, Nintendo is acting." "We have momentum."
George Harrison has just been introduced. Nintendo's quarterly growth is up 21%. "Without Nintendo, there is no growth." Nintendo has sold through 3.3 million units through last year--big improvement (sold more games than MS and closing in on Sony).
Gamers want "familiarity and value" -- "major play for minor pay." Nintendo sold 73% more GCNs through 2003 holiday season than previous year. "It will be quite some time before someone can match our $99 price point."
Advance Wars: Under Fire coming to GCN. GCN's library will grow to 400+ games. Pokemon Fire Red & Green Leaf allows gamers to trade through wireless connection. "GBA owns the handheld market." GBA Video being discussed now. Initial orders already over 2 million units.
"By the time the PSP gets on the ballot next year, the GBA will have over 25 million votes." Nintendo says "Sony has a huge hill to climb." They expect that the GBA SP's battery life will be far better than the PSP's. The GBA is built on the back of "must-have exclusive titles."
Sony, like Nokia have to find killer-apps to be successful. "In the end, it's still about the games."
Now they are showing video clips of Paper Mario 2, Pikmin 2, Zelda: Four Swords, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Donkey Konga, Geist, Donkey Kong Country 2, Mario Pinball, Mario Golf: Advance Tour, DK: King of Swing, Zelda: The Minish Camp, Rainbow Six 3, Tales of Symphonia, Killer 7, Baiten Kaitos, WWE Day of Reckoning, Terminator 3, Harry Potter: Azkaban, Viewtiful Joe 2, NCAA Football 2005 and more.
They've just unveiled the Nintendo DS. It looks very similar to the GBA SP. They say DS is better known as "developer system." "DS changes our industry." The DS will provide gamers with new ways to relate to games. Now they are showing a video of different developers and publishers who are absolutely raving about the DS. They all believe it will be very successful and that it is a very innovative product.
The DS has two screens, each of which is programable in 2D or 3D. They are showing Mario on the DS on both screens. One character can see two perspectives of a battle at the same time or a map on one screen and the gameplay on the other. A Metroid game is being displayed on DS as well, and will be playable on the show floor at E3.
The DS will have 2 media bays, one for DS and one for all the GBA games. The DS is fully compatible with all GBA game. The DS screen is touch sensitive and can be used with a stylus. There is also a built-in microphone for voice recognition features in games. "Touch and voice offers vast new realms in gaming." The DS also features wireless gaming.
The DS will have Wi-Fi capability to allow it to connect to the 'net. "It changes how you connect to the game and to each other." Another video of developers and publishers is being shown. They are all impressed by the DS' unique set of features, especially the touch screen, the new format of memory, and the multiplayer wireless capabilities. DS is making game designers focus on creativity.
Nintendo is targeting release of the DS in North America and Japan for this year still. It will come with a new name, however. The DS will be fully playable with many games on the show floor tomorrow.
Nintendo's Satoru Iwata has just been introduced. He is saying how proud Nintendo is that their advancements have mostly become industry standards. "DS is not just higher specs, it's Different." "Different" also describes the approach Nintendo will take for their next console. "Simply beefing up the graphics will not make the difference." The console must deliver something gamers have never seen before. Nintendo's next console is currently being worked on. "Specs don't really matter." When you see it "you will experience a gaming revolution."
WOW!!! They've just shown an incredible video for a new, upcoming realistic Zelda game, and now Miayamoto-san has come out to speak, while holding Link's sword and shield.
"We're giving players what they want for both GameCube and GBA." "DS raises the bar on portable gaming." "This IS a new day for Nintendo. We remain all about the game." Now the conference has just ended. Wow! They really did save the best for last!
Kaz Hirai has just started the show with an opening about the history of PlayStation. He is discussing the 10-year life cycle.
Kaz is continuing to talk about how successful the PlayStation brand is and how much more they've sold than their competitors. They want to extend lifespan to 10 years. Sony also believes that pricing is very important. Sony was able to keep the PS2 at $299 and then at $199 for very long periods of time because the console was selling so well. "The health of the business rests on our shoulders."
PS2 is being reduced to $149 and it includes network adaptor and ATV Offroad Fury 2!
Kaz is boasting about how many million seller titles there are for PS2. In fact, the PS2 has more million sellers than Xbox and GCN combined. Upcoming hit titles: God of War, Gran Turismo 4, Metal Gear Solid 3, Getaway Black Monday, Killzone, Jak 3, Ratchet & Clank 3, Sly 2 (they call it "year of the platformer"), GTA San Andreas, and more.
They are talking about EyeToy and how it's challenged developers to think about the existing market. Many more EyeToy games are in development by both first and third party developers (Harry Potter, Sega Superstars, DDR, etc.).
They have sold 3 million network adapters which is 10% of the installed user base, and they get 100,000 new users per month. They believe online gaming for PS2 in 2004 will be huge. More than 100 online titles on PS2 by the end of this year.
They are now showing a video of some of the upcoming games for PS2 (not necessarily all online)... Mortal Kombat: Deception, Gran Turismo 4, Ghost Recon 2, MLB SlugFest: Loaded, Hot Shots Golf, and more.
President of Insomniac Ted Price is now there talking about Ratchet & Clank 3. The two previous R&C games sold nearly 4 million worldwide. This will be the first online R&C game. Insomniac believes that R&C online will bring online gaming to more mainstream gamers.
8 simultaneous players online and 6 online battlefields will be in R&C: Up Your Arsenal. There will be full community support...clans, tourneys, etc. Online modes will include capture-the-flag, deathmatch, etc. There will be co-op vehicles and destructible environs. Now they are demoing the multiplayer with employees from Insomniac. Using gadgets is very important for multiplayer, and they are showing off the vehicles in multi like the hovercraft. It's similar to onslaught in Unreal Tournament. One team is trying to defend the base from another that is trying to take it. You can turn players into sheep with one of the gadgets. Everything being shown now is real-time gameplay. They are showing off the different weapons now as well.
Kaz Hirai is saying commerce, customization and community building are the three keys to realizing potential for online gaming. The most important thing is to give publishers control over their online systems. The only thing holding online gaming back is how to make money. They are comparing mini-transactions like downloadable content, episodes to downloadble music over the Internet; this could be a way to make money.
An example of the above system would be a gamer willing to spend a little money to buy a super-tweaked out car for Gran Turismo. Online gaming will be a critical bridge from this generation of consoles to the next.
They are now introducing the PSP! Kaz is holding one in his hand right now and it seems pretty similar to the concept that was shown many months ago. It also seems a little bigger than the GBA.
PSP is as revolutionary as the original PSOne says Kaz. It includes wireless connectivity, and it will offer high-quality movies, music and video in addition to 3D gaming similar to PS2 quality graphics. The initial target audience for the PSP is the 18-34 year-old market, people who have more disposable income.
The display is a 16x9, 4.3 inch widescreen LCD. This enhances in-game perihperal vision. The PSP has stereo speakers and 32MB ram and 4MB VRam. They will have regional lockouts on the UMDs. The PSP is also going to include a USB 2.0 slot and and infrared dataport. The PSP will contain a lithium-ion battery. They claim roughly 10 hours of playback with this battery.
They are now talking about UMDs and how they can hold three times as much as traditional CD-ROMs. Development for the PSP should not be a problem because it uses OpenGL. They keep on stressing the "advent of wireless gaming"... PSP to PSP, PSP to PS2, and PSP to PC. All major game companies are on board for PSP development. 34 from Japan, 24 from North America, etc.
They are now showing a video of some PSP games (not running off PSP architecture however)...Death Jr., Ape Escape, Spiderman, FIFA, Twisted Metal, Tony Hawk, and more.
They just introduced John Mattrick, president of EA Worldwide Studios. EA will provide same degree of support for PSP that they have shown the PS2. EA will have a min. of 4 titles for PSP's launch... Need for Speed Underground, Tiger Woods, NFL Street and NBA Street. These games are now being shown running off PSP hardware, and they look pretty similar to PS2 games.
Movie studios and music publishers have also shown interest in PSP. They are showing a movie (Spiderman 2 trailer) actually running on the PSP sitting there on stage. It definitely looks like high quality video.
It doesn't look like the PSP has a digital pad, only an analog control.
The next demo being shown is FF: Advent Children. The movie will be over 70 minutes and will be available on UMD, so it can be played on the PSP. The events that take place are 2 years after the event of FFVII.
UMD will allow for all kinds of content. They are now showing an Incubus video on the PSP. Sony's digital music service can be extended to include PSP.
GameDAILY is currently experiencing some technical difficulties at the conference. Please stay tuned.
They are now discussing how all Cell-based (the processor) hardware will connect. A Cell-based workstation is coming in Q4 2004 as a prototype.
The conference has just come to a close. Unfortunately, pricing for the PSP was not disclosed yet.
They are showing Unreal Championship 2 right now with CG and Gameplay trailers. Lots of shooting and blood. Following that is a trailer for Shrek 2, which is an upcoming platformer. They are showing Shrek and 9 of his friends, and stuff from the upcoming movie that's never been seen.
They are now showing the upcoming Full Spectrum Warrior, which looks according to Justin Davis at the conference now, "incredibly realistic." Guys take cover behind cars, tanks are shooting, etc. These are just a series of trailers to open the show. No one has spoken yet.
They are currently showing MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf, which looks mostly like CG. The next Conker game is currently being shown which is spoofing a scene from Terminator. Now they are showing Conker multiplayer gameplay which "looks way, way nicer than at last E3," says Justin Davis. Conker: Live and Reloaded is the official title.
They are now showing a video for the anticipated Fable. You can be whatever you want to be... hero, tyrant, assassin, etc. Pretty much what we've seen in the past about Fable.
Now they are showing a video for Star Wars: Republic Commando, which looks visually impressive. There is some squad-based combat going on right now. They are destroying a huge enemy on-screen right now. "The Squad is your weapon" was the motto.
Jay Allard is talking about "changing the game" with software and how they went about creating Xbox Live by speaking to real gamers. They are also doing a parody of the Apprentice with Donald Trump right now. They are giving people assignments with online games. They are also poking fun at Sony through this parody; about how they don't really have a network and how Xbox Live is so much better than Sony Online.
The parody is continuing and they are making fun of Sony for not having integrated features in their online service; Sony didn't talk to its customers or gamers. Trump is saying, "How come the adpater isn't every box like the Xbox has." TXB was up against some Sony people, and the Sony people ended up getting fired for not having a good online system.
Now Jay Allard is talking again... 150 games on LIVE, 1 million LIVE subscribers and 24 countries are participating. "There's always something to do on Xbox Live." Now they are demonstrating the new Xbox Live features, showing the dashboard on-screen.
The Xbox Live demo continues using Jenny McCarthy to show off the new voice message capabilities. 450,000 people have already upgraded to the new Xbox Live, which is just the tip of the iceberg. They are now showing a kind of videophone (next logical step) where you can see Jenny McCarthy through Xbox Live, and you can meet up with multiple people at the same time. Eventually, video communication will be a part of all Xbox Live experiences... will revolutionize social entertainment.
They are now talking about and showing off the new Xbox Live Arcade, with games like Dig Dug, Tetris, card games, puzzle games, etc. These games will be available for download.
Allard is now talking about XNA and what it can do; basically what XNA allows developers to do. They are showing the car crash demo on XNA right now (which may have been shown at GDC already).
Allard says they took the crash to the next level with XNA in only 6 weeks. "Crash Reloaded" shows much more dynamic lighting with a green car and blue car crashing into each other, with pieces flying everywhere. Allard was controlling the camera view manually during the crash. In 6 weeks they were able to add the second car and all the new crash effects.
The original creator of EverQuest has teamed up with MS to create Vanguard Saga of Heroes on XNA. He's using a Windows version of Xbox Live with XNA.
Star Wars Republic Commando, Sudeki, Showdown Legends of Wrestling, Chronicles of Riddick, Harry Potter, TMNT 2, ESPN NFL 2005, MK: Deception, Jade Empire, MechAssault 2, DRIV3R, Shrek 2, ESPN NBA 2005, StarCraft Ghost, and more are currently being shown in quick video clips. Madden 2005 is also being shown, which interestingly didn't have the Xbox Live logo. LOTR: The Third Age, KOTOR II, Burnout 3, Full Spectrum Warrior, DoA Ultimate, DOOM III, and others were quickly just shown to highlight games.
Now Peter Moore has come out to speak.
Halo 2 multiplayer is being demoed for the first time, and the crowd cheered very loudly. This particular map is in Zanzabar. Each suit in Halo 2 multiplayer is very customizable. In the demo, one person is a covenant and one person is a master chief guy. You can have two different weapons, one in each hand. He killed the covenant enemy and picked up his weapon. All the vehicles have been overhauled, and all are fully destructible. He blew off one wing and then the other, destroying it bit by bit; very impressive. Same can be done with the Warthog, which now is equipped with a rocket launcher. And, the more damaged your vehicle is, the harder it is to drive.
The Halo 2 demo continues, and they are showing off the physics models by blowing up the warthog. Now he's talking about the demo that will be playable on the show floor at E3. They will have a CTF (capture the flag) map that will be fully playable. It's basically a quick flyby of the level so people know where the weapons and stuff are located.
Official street date for Halo 2 announced: November 9th. In fact the guy tatooed the Halo 2 logo and release date on his arm. Set in skin, so to speak. There will be a huge television ad campaign.
They are now discussing DOA Ultimate, the first 3D fighting game to be playable online. It's been completely built from the ground-up for Xbox and Xbox Live. Now they are showing a demo of the game. They are detailing different characters on different stages. Tag team play is also being shown, and someone got thrown into an elephant in the background. They are now fighting on the beach in bikinis. Someone jumped on another character in the snow and slid down the snowy hill.
DOOM III will be console exclusive to the Xbox. There will be co-op play over Xbox Live and the footage shown was entirely in-game, not CG. They are now showing off dark, moody environments; lots of detailed shadows while walking through corridors; writing on the wall in blood; exploring with a flashlight and coming across dead bodies littering the floor. Now they are showing gameplay where he blows someone's head off.
They are now discussing Jade Empire. Now a video is being shown. A warrior is trying to overthrow a tyrant. They are mostly showing off the combat system.
"Most impressive lineup for Xbox ever" says Peter Moore. They've just revealed Forza Motorsports, which is the rumored "Gran Turismo killer." You can build, tune it, drive it, tune it some more, etc..."until it's no longer a machine, it's you." The performance of the cars are adversely affected by in-game damage.
Robbie Bach (chief Xbox officer) has just been introduced to the crowd. He's summing up how far Xbox and Xbox Live has come since its launch. Microsoft is a "recognized player" now. He's talking about bringing games forward in new ways... "Best looking, best playing, and best online games." He's going over the advantages of XNA again. Xbox Live took half the time to reach 1 million subscribers than cable network HBO. They are talking about expanding the online gaming market, expanding the audience with partnerships. The range of content needs to be expanded to attract more people.
The whole EA Sports lineup is coming to Xbox Live!! They've reached an agreement. The president of EA has just come out to speak. They have a pro athelete for each game being represented. Muhammed Ali just came out for Fight Night, and the crowd went wild chanting "Ali! Ali!" Need for Speed Underground 2, Battlefield Modern Combat, Timesplitters 3, Goldeneye 2 will all be playable on Xbox Live. "EA is committed to bringing quality software to Xbox Live."
The conference has come to an end, with their reiterating the theme of how they are "changing the game."
