Sony annuncia la presentazione di PS3 all'E3 2005 in forma giocabile

TOKYO, July 12 (Reuters) - Electronics and entertainment conglomerate Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Mondayit would have its next-generation PlayStation home console ready to display at next year's E3 video game show, usually held in May.

"There has been some talk that development for a next generation game console has not been going well, but we will have a playable version ready by next spring," said Sony's game division head, Ken Kutaragi.

He did not specify when the new console would go on sale, but said it would follow a similar schedule to market as its predecessor, PlayStation 2 (PS2), which first went on sale in March 2000.

Nintendo Co. Ltd. (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) plans to unveil a new home console of its own, codenamed "Revolution", at next year's E3, the video game industry's annual trade show.

Sony's next generation console, already dubbed "PS3" by video game websites, will be powered by Sony's "Cell" microprocessor that is being developed with IBM Corp. (IBM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Toshiba Corp. (6502.T: Quote, Profile, Research) .

The Cell processor will be up to 10 times more powerful than conventional chips and able to shepherd large chunks of information through a high-speed Internet network.

Kutaragi unveiled details of the new home console at an event flagging the release of the company's first handheld game machine, PlayStation Portable (PSP).

Sony has said it planned to offer the PSP in Japan before year-end, and has targeted a roll-out in Europe and the United States by March 31, 2005.

The PSP, Sony's first new major hardware release in four years, aims to unseat Nintendo's GameBoy as the dominant mobile game machine.

Ahead of the announcement, Sony's shares closed up 0.5 percent at 4,020 yen, underperforming the benchmark Nikkei 225 , which rose 1.4 percent

July 12, 2004 - At a press conference held today in Tokyo, Sony Computer Entertainment announced plans to officially unveil the next generation PlayStation console before the end of the current fiscal year and show it in playable form early next year.

Company president Ken Kutaragi outlined a schedule for the system in a speech given during the conference. SCE would like to unveil the system, referred to in slides as "Next System," at a premier party to take place some time in fiscal year 2004 (prior to April 2005). This will be followed by showings at next year's E3 and Tokyo Game Show events where Kutaragi hopes to have many titles playable.
Details on actual development for the system were also unveiled. Kutaragi stated that he'd like to have "Version 1" of development materials out in the early part of fiscal 2005, with "Version 2" to follow in the latter half.

As the focus of the press conference was on the PSP portable system, comments on the PS3 were limited to the above

Per me benissimo,è lo scheduling perfetto di cui parlavo nell'altro topic.Come dicevo secondo me la cosa migliore è far uscire la PS3 pochi mesi dopo la concorrenza in modo da poter agire in modo da mantenere una leadership tencologica e allo stesso tempo non concedere troppo terreno agli altri,sia come vendite che come supporto da parte degli sviluppatori.
E poi onestamente io nel 2006 voglio una console nuova,ormai PS2 con i titoli che usciranno entro l'anno prossimo avrà dato tutto quello che poteva dare.

Cmq di interessante non dice nulla più diquelo che ho riassunto.
Kutaragi in una conferenza ha oggi detto che le specifiche di PS3 saranno annunciate ad un party speciale entro Marzo 2005 e che la console sarà pronta per essere mostrata in forma giocabile all'E3 2005.
