Exclusive: PlayStation 2 Online Broadband only in Europe 7th Mar 2003
Sony fights off Live.
We can reveal that the PlayStation 2 will be a broadband-only gaming service when it launches in the UK later this year.
Indeed, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has today announced its first concrete plans around bringing its long awaited PlayStation 2 online services to the UK, following Microsoft’s online limelight-basking that has been taking place recently.
SCEE intends to begin a full-scale public beta test, scheduled to commence on March 31 of this year.
In a press release issued today, Sony said, “To join the PlayStation 2 network gaming trial community, consumers must have a PlayStation 2 and a broadband connection. They must register their interest to participate in the trials by visiting uk.playstation.com and completing an online questionnaire. If subsequently accepted as a trial member they will then be able to purchase a starter kit comprising: PlayStation 2 Network Adaptor, SOCOM USB Headset, and a special online only version of SOCOM: US Navy SEALs.”
This understandably raised our collective monobrow, as a narrowband option, as offered to American gamers, was expected across the board in broadband-backwards Europe.
Speaking today, SCEE marketing chief David Wilson said, “In Europe the service will be broadband only. The American arm took a different route, we know, but in Europe the service will be a broadband service
quindi pare che il broadband sia necessario pure per ps2
