After the E3's presentation and a lukewarm reception, Shigeru Miyamoto assured fans thast they had "creative ideas" in mind for the opinion-splitting Wii Vitality Sensor. Now, Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, revealed that they're planning to release the peripheral during next year, and that they are also preparing a game that will use it to launch alongside.
According to Iwata, the company has been doing tests with their workers to evaluate the possibilities the device, which can sense the user's pulse. The president talked about the game that would launch alongside it, explaining the concept they have for it
...a video game with a theme of relaxation, which is completely opposite from traditional ones, to enrich the users' lives. Especially among those who are constantly busy, I am sure you have experienced not being able to go to bed even when you are so tired after a busy day at work and coming home late at night... What if you were able to visualize how to unwind and relax, or check the condition of your automatic nerve by simply inserting your finger in the device once a day? We are conducting some tests internally at Nintendo, and found some patterns among our employees, like improving automatic nerve condition as the weekend nears or vice versa. Seeing what their condition is actually like, they can "visualize" how they are looking forward to weekend. And see completely different patterns on each individual person.
Also, Iwata spoke about both the Wii and DS life cycles, noting that they could double their audience before disappearing. He also admitted, though, that engineers are researching new hardware for their successors
"We don't think the expansion has reached its end and that we need to launch a new console soon. Taking into account the numbers it's still possible that the audience of the Nintendo DS and Wii be doubled" he said. "But of course, our engineers are investigating new hardware"
