Directly from TeamXbox :
The first thing that is worth clarifying is that Doom III for the Xbox is not a port of the PC version. Karthik Bala, CEO of Vicarious Visions, is always quick to point out that “the Xbox version of Doom III is not a port, but rather another version of the game.” Vicarious Visions feels proud of the particulars they’re implementing into the Xbox version to take advantage of what the console has to offer.
Developing for a console has one big advantage over the PC; the developer has consistent hardware to work with being that each Xbox console is identical. Therefore special code to maximize performance can be written and it will work consistently throughout. This is where Vicarious Visions has excelled in the development of Doom III.
The dev team did some research and found back doors and even a few undocumented instructions for the NV2X, allowing them to write custom shaders for the Xbox GPU which have improved performance to an exceptional level. The standard seven passes required to render a single frame in Doom III were reduced to four passes; that’s almost unbelievable in terms of graphic performance. The end result? At 640x480 it is hard to distinguish between the two versions. So if you’ve seen how good the PC version looks, the Xbox version will be right on par.
Ok, e questo + o - lo sapevamo....ma il bello viene ora:
But that’s not the only incredible aspect that VV is working on. After tweaking the graphics they’ve focused on something even more important; gameplay. Vicarious Visions has been doing lot of research on control setups for first-person shooters and the results will be making their way to Doom III. The Xbox version will feature auto-adjusting sensitivity for the controller thumbsticks. A complex algorithm takes into account several factors during gameplay and calculates in real-time the correct values for different sensitivity parameters. So the thumbsticks won’t behave the same if you’re entering a room full of monsters as compared to simply exploring an empty room.
Of course Vicarious Visions is making extensive use of the Xbox’s built-in hard drive to reduce loading times and also will result in smooth gameplay once you have begun playing a level.
So far, one of the best additions that Vicarious Visions is incorporating to the Xbox version of Doom III is the co-operative mode; and that will be an Xbox exclusive. Tell your PC gamer friends about it and they’ll be green of envy. The Xbox has become the de facto co-op platform and VV knew gamers expect a top class first-person shooter to feature co-operative elements. We can only imagine the new possibilities this will open up to the Doom III gameplay. Remember one thing: you’ll need an Xbox to find out.
E soprattutto...
As of yet Vicarious Visions hasn’t confirmed whether the co-op multiplayer mode will also be available online or not. But considering VV’s Xbox track record, we’ll keep the fingers crossed and count on some serious online co-op action. What we know for sure is that Doom III for the Xbox will feature online multiplayer modes such as last man standing and deathmatch. In fact, the game will support v3.0 of Xbox Live, aka Tsunami, and its new features such as user-created tournaments, clan stats, and instant-messaging. Probably both id Software and Vicarious Visions are cooking up something else for multiplayer, but we’ll have to wait a little longer for the details.
Sarà compatibile 3.0!!!Fantastico
A questo punto, ciao ciao versione PC
anke se nn è fra i titoli ke aspetto maggiormente spero cmq ke verrano mantenute tutte le promesse sulla conversione;
